Chiesa di San Teodoro e chiese di San Nicolò di Mira e dell’Angelo

Chiesa di San Teodoro e chiese di San Nicolò di Mira e dell’Angelo

In the area of San Vero Congius stands the church of San Teodoro, accompanied by the ruins of the churches of San Nicolò di Mira and dell'Angelo. This area, whose name 'San Vero' derives from Sanctus Theodorus, has a history dating back to the 12th century and is mentioned in a peace treaty of 1388. The original village was relocated between 1917 and 1924 due to frequent flooding of the river Tirso. The church of San Teodoro, which was built between the 6th-7th and 9th-10th centuries, has a characteristic cruciform plan with external arches that are still visible. Adjacent to this are the remains of the Romanesque church of San Nicola di Mira, further evidence of the site's rich historical and architectural stratification.
