Chiesa di San Pietro
Chiesa di San Pietro
Dating back to the 12th century, the church of San Pietro a Bidonì is an example of Romanesque architecture characterised by an extreme formal essentiality. Its construction is distinguished by the use of finely worked stones, which create a suggestive chromatic play, varying from red to pale yellow. The façade is embellished with an engraved portal, while the iconography present suggests a link with the abbey of Bonarcado. In spite of the general decorative sobriety, the building presents some details of considerable interest, such as an engraved element on the single lancet window of the apse and a series of round arches crowned by decorated corbels, which give the whole a touch of architectural refinement.
