Chiesa di San Lussorio
Chiesa di San Lussorio
In Fordongianus, the church of San Lussorio stands as a tangible testimony to the life and cult of saints. An inscription walled in the south side of the building makes explicit reference to the 'Passio Sancti Luxurii', highlighting the deep connection of the place with the figure of the saint. Archaeological research suggests that already in the 4th century this area was associated with the cult of St. Lussorio, probably in a semi-hypogeum environment. Over the centuries, the sanctuary underwent numerous transformations and extensions. The construction of the Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Lussorio dates back to the early 12th century, marking a significant stage in the architectural evolution of the site. A further stage of development is evidenced by the presence of a Catalan-Gothic portal, added in the Aragonese period between 1250 and 1270, which enriched the building with new stylistic and historical elements.
