Chiesa di San Leonardo

Chiesa di San Leonardo

The church of San Leonardo in Masullas is a fascinating example of architectural stratification. A restoration carried out in 1977 brought to light traces of a pre-existing single-nave church, on which the Romanesque structure was subsequently built in the 12th century. The building is distinguished by the use of different materials, most notably sandstone and trachyte, mainly used for the main façades. The façade presents a bipartite structure, enriched by a bell gable and a mock loggia with small arches, elements that give the whole a harmonious and refined appearance. The most prominent architectural elements include a semicircular portal, a series of hanging arches and a central mullioned window, which contribute to defining the Romanesque character of the building.
