Chiesa di San Gregorio
Chiesa di San Gregorio
The church of San Gregorio in Solarussa presents itself as a true architectural 'palimpsest', offering a historical stratification of considerable interest. The building, characterised by a simple structure but embellished by fine stonework, incorporates elements from different eras. Inside, there are floors and a basin from Roman times, a Romanesque floor and the foundations of an earlier early medieval church. Formal analysis and historical references suggest a date of construction in the second half of the 12th century, probably by the same workers who worked at Santa Maria di Bonarcado. The church has a longitudinal plan with an east-facing apse and a particularly fascinating portal, characterised by two-colour decorations that accentuate its artistic value.
