Chiesa Santa Maria del Soccorso
Chiesa DI Santa Maria del Soccorso
A significant example in Macomer of how urban evolution can influence the perception and function of sacred buildings. Originally located outside the town centre, it now stands in the heart of a district that takes its name from it, becoming its spiritual fulcrum. Constructed in the early 12th century, the structure is made of greenish tufa blocks, a material choice reflecting the construction techniques typical of Pisan Sardinia. The original layout had a longitudinal plan with a single nave ending in a semicircular apse, covered by a double-pitched roof with exposed beams. This configuration is typical of Sardinian Romanesque architecture. Over the centuries, the building has undergone numerous restorations that have modified its original appearance, adapting it to changing liturgical and stylistic requirements. Despite these modifications, it maintains its historical-architectural value, representing an important document of the evolution of religious architecture in Sardinia from the Middle Ages to the modern age.
