Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo
Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo
The church of San Pietro Apostolo in Onanì, in the heart of Sardinia, is an example of the intimate relationship between Romanesque architecture and the rural landscape of Barbagia. Built in 12th century worked granite, it has similarities with similar buildings on the island of Elba and in Corsica. The plan is single-nave with an apse to the south-east, characterised by a single lancet window in the centre and a cruciform opening. The façade has a portal with a raised archway and a schist lintel, while the sloping roofs converge towards a large bell gable. The outer roof is made of schist slabs.
