Chiesa di Santa Maria
Chiesa di Santa Maria
Chronologically placed in the 13th century, the church of Santa Maria a Uta presents structural similarities with the coeval church of Santa Maria di Tratalìas. The building, made of sedimentary stone, is characterised by a façade articulated on two orders: the lower one houses a richly decorated architraved portal, while the upper one is dominated by a pediment with a mullioned window. Of particular interest are the side decorations, which have come down to us in an excellent state of preservation, and which in the past fulfilled the function of illustrating episodes from the Gospel to the illiterate faithful. The interior of the church is distinguished by its naves covered with wooden vaults and the presence of round arches supported by columns with capitals decorated with phytomorphic motifs.
