Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta
Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta
Dating back to the early 14th century, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Lunamatrona boasts a rich and layered history. A significant detail is the dating of one of its bells to 1326, which provides a valuable temporal reference. Initially, the building served as the town's first parish church until 1630, and then took on the function of a cemetery church. The architecture is characterised by a façade of remarkable simplicity, enhanced by a bell gable that defines its profile. The archivolted portal is an element of particular artistic interest, decorated with refined floral motifs that reveal a clear influence of Arab culture, bearing witness to the cultural and artistic exchanges of the time.
