Chiesa di Santa Maria
Chiesa di Santa Maria
Located in Guspini, the Church of Santa Maria boasts origins dating back to the 13th century. An intriguing detail of its history is the presence of the 'Maltese cross' on the side portal, which has led scholars to speculate that the building belonged to the Knights of the Order of Malta. The façade, preserved in its original form, offers a remarkable example of Sardinian medieval architecture. The main portal stands out for its decoration with protruding elements, while a large window catches the eye at the top. Decorative small arches, enriched by ceramic basin housings, add a touch of refinement to the exterior. Inside, the faithful can admire a precious wooden statue depicting the sleeping Assumption, a work that testifies to the artistic and devotional wealth of the building.
