Thanks to the funding of a European Interreg Maritime Programme called 'GritAccess' and the collaboration with the Region of Sardinia, a virtual and three-dimensional flight over the island has been realised, allowing the user to fly over Sardinia and immediately perceive the vastness and richness of the great Sardinian Romanesque heritage and appreciate the scenic beauty of the sites.
The web-based virtual tour of Romanesque churches in Sardinia represents a unicum in the panorama of the fruition of cultural heritage on a national scale. To date, there are no 3D virtual environments on such a vast scale and with similar characteristics, usable through a specific web platform.
The virtual tour application and 3D surveys were produced by Aeronike Srl, a leading company in the field of aerophotogrammetric filming and very high resolution 3D reconstruction of large portions of the territory.
The platform realised will also be usable remotely and can be visited through the Fondazione website, while in the European Romanesque Documentation Centre an immersive reality experience will be possible with the use of "oculus" equipped workstations that allow one to try out this suggestive experience.
