Centro Europeo di Documentazione del Romanico

Funded through the contribution of a European Interreg Maritime project called GritAccess (Great Accessible Route), the European Romanesque Documentation Centre constitutes the physical headquarters of the articulated network in the territory represented by the Fondazione and a reference point for visitors, who within the structure can access information and tools for a virtual visit of the network of over 100 churches that adhere to the Romanesque Itinerary in Sardinia. Through the presence of three suitable stations equipped with oculus it is possible to interact with the 3D itinerary of the simulated aeroplane flight, allowing the visitor a highly immersive and interactive reality experience, which allows them to visit the monuments in the environment and natural landscape in which they are set.

For the virtual tour of the churches, it is possible to draw from a list of the monuments of the Itinerary and discover them through the Ledwall and videowall screens in one of the rooms of the Documentation Centre. Through the use of the Ledwall screens, it is possible to access the virtual tours of the churches of the itinerary and, with the help of the oculus, immerse oneself in the columns, chapels, naves, capitals, frescoes and works of art inside the churches, in an artistic itinerary that, although virtual, conveys extraordinary sensations, emotions and suggestions.

Again, through the large high-definition screens, the different views of the monuments can be grasped, thanks to the panoramic aerial photos captured by drones, which with the help of short films supplement the visual information on the churches. The combination of these advanced technologies allows us to offer a complete and interactive representation of the Romanesque churches of the Sardinian network, fostering their knowledge and promoting this extraordinary cultural heritage within a broader European heritage.

A large touch table allows you to use the same programme and visit the Itinerary manually.

The European Romanesque Documentation Centre contributes to the statutory objective of making Sardinian Romanesque art, history, and landscape accessible through the use of new technologies to make known and appreciate the great cultural and monumental heritage linked to the Sardinian Middle Ages, which through its history accompanies us to visit the historic centres of the small villages and the scenic beauty of the rural territories, in which Romanesque architectural jewels rich in faith, tradition and history are set.
