Chiesa di Santa Lucia

Chiesa di Santa Lucia

In Usellus, the church of Santa Lucia is an interesting example of religious architecture that has undergone modifications over the centuries. The structure, originally consisting of a single nave, saw the addition of a rectangular building to replace the original apse, thus altering its initial configuration. Scholars speculate that the construction of the church may have taken place between the end of the 12th century and the first half of the 13th century, placing it in the period of the spread of the Romanesque style in Sardinia. The façade is characterised by an architraved portal enriched with decorative elements, while a bell gable crowns the composition. Inside, the space is marked by a segmental vault that divides the room, creating a cosy atmosphere. Of particular interest is the 18th-century altar dedicated to Saint Lucy, which is a later addition and testifies to the continuity of worship and the artistic evolution of the building over time.
