Chiesa di Santa Sofia
Chiesa di Santa Sofia
The façade, influenced by Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles, reflects a local eclecticism. The three portals shaped according to the Renaissance pattern with floral motifs are eye-catching.The rose window in red trachyte and a tympanum with large lunettes. The bell tower rises 40 metres to the sky.It is rich in Baroque elements, such as the decorations in red volcanic stone and the 'onion' dome. The church has Romanesque origins, traces of which remain on the outside, on the left side and in the apse. The single nave is divided into three bays with rounded arches. The chapels extend the depth of the space, providing diffuse light.
