Chiesa di San Saturnino

Chiesa di San Saturnino

Probably built in the 12th century, the church of San Saturnino in Ussana is distinguished by the use of heterogeneous materials in its construction. The structure consists of two naves, whose apses are oriented towards the north-east. Inside, the building contains elements of considerable historical and artistic interest, including columns and capitals from the Roman era, dating back to the 1st century AD. Over the centuries, the church has undergone numerous restorations and modifications. A singular episode in its history occurred in 1917, when the building was temporarily used as accommodation for prisoners of war, thus testifying to its adaptation to different functions over time.
