Chiesa di San Saturnino di Usolvisi

Chiesa di San Saturnino di Usolvisi

Situated on an isolated hillock, the country church of San Saturnino di Usolvisi in Bultei offers a suggestive panoramic view, acting as a bridge between the ancient and Christian worlds. Built on the remains of a nuraghe, near the ancient Roman baths known as Aquae Lesitanae, the church was donated in 1163 to the Camaldolese monks by the bishop of Castra, with the approval of the Turritan judge Barisone II de Lacon-Gunale and the archbishop of Torres. The structure, in its charming simplicity, is made of blocks of local red trachyte. The façade features an architraved portal and a bell gable, while the apse has a semicircular shape.
