The Church of San Gregorio in Sardara, although there are no documents that attest to its precise date of construction, is placed by experts at the beginning of the 14th century on the basis of a careful stylistic and structural analysis. This sacred building represents a refined example of architectural transition, in which elements of the emerging island Gothic style are harmoniously blended with those of the persistent Sardinian Romanesque style of the 14th century. The structure consists of a single-nave hall, culminating in an apse that perfectly embodies this stylistic compromise between the Romanesque tradition and the new Italian Gothic influences. The façade is characterised by its 'gabled' profile, dominated by an architraved portal and embellished with a rose window of clear Gothic inspiration. The bell gable and a second portal with pointed arches complete the articulated external composition, giving the building an appearance of considerable historical and artistic interest.
