While the virtual flight for the tour of Romanesque monuments on the island provides a precise overview of the location of the monuments in the region, it is also necessary to provide information accessible to visitors who decide to walk these medieval itineraries in situ. When travelling along the Romanesque itineraries in Sardinia, particularly the rural ones, it is not always possible to access the interior of the churches because they are often closed to visits. In order to overcome this problem, a form of technological accessibility has been devised, which allows one to virtually visit the monument inside. To achieve this, each church will be equipped with an effective tool that solves, even partially, this gap.
To solve this problem, we thought of the Digital Cippoa lithic element, made of basalt stone on the top of which a plate has been applied, also made of stone material properly treated to resist atmospheric agents, on which a QRcode has been engraved. By framing the QR code with your smartphone, you will be linked to an information sheet on the history of the monument you are visiting and its peculiarities. The product thus combines digital technology integrated with a natural element such as basalt stone, blending perfectly into the landscape surrounding the monument, so much so that it blends into it without detracting from the beauty of the places, whether rural or urban, and at the same time providing important information to visitors.
Through the QR code, it will also be possible to access a virtual tour inside the church, which is closed. The Digital Stone represents a new model of accessibility that will be present in the surrounding space of each Romanesque church of the Sardinian Romanesque Itinerary. Once the agreement process with the Superintendency has been completed, 100 Digital Cippus will be placed throughout Sardinia, making the Sardinian Romanesque Itinerary one of the most innovative and accessible support systems for cultural tourism on the national and international scene.
